CHALLENGE

Havells planned to release a new premium home appliances line for under the name of Havells Studio. We were asked to design a app experience that carried on the premium feeling.

The design of the aplliance was designed by the ID team of GDD and used Materials like Wood and Metal to keep carbon emissions low.
Havells requested was not only to design the product but also the Companion app made for the device.

We, The GDD ED team, were tasked with designing the digitial experience of the app.

A race against time, a load of limitations____

When we initiated the project, the industrial design team and Havells management had already finalised the final prototype for production. With few months to go before the launch, we (experience design team) got to work.
Havells wanted us to design an interface for Havells Meditates control centre inside the Havells Sync App.
Their ask was to design a premium experience for their customers that compliments the physical product

We were limited by the already existing architecture and framework of the app, so we redirected our attention to the control screen. Since it was a smart product, the device would take care of certain decisions like speed and modes on its own. This meant the controls were secondary, the important thing the user would require were the stats on his current room environment. So we wanted to design the interface keeping the goal to always inform and if needed alert our users about their air quality.

We through a collaborative process of brainstorming, discussions, prototypes, and other iterative methods explored the UI,

We sat down on the Havells Design team and narrowed down on 3 guiding factors users should always know about:
1. Is my air quality good?
Is their anything I can do to make the air quality better?
Is my air purifier working fine?

We started iterating on layouts. We explored card based designs with the idea that could be resized to corousal layouts with their idea of scalability but instead we agreed on designing a more tailored approach, we we chose for a more graphic approach then typographic approach.

The top section of the app houses the control and automation tabs to switch between the two.The swtch on/off buttons are positioned next to the brand name and the device location The next section is a place for all in app notifications that can range from high AQI warnings to scheduling prompts. Folowed by that are the AQI and dust indicators and Filter life bar.
At the bottom are the tabs to switch between levels, speed and timer.

We designed a live notification panel to help users get instant feedback weather the app is on or off

In the first weeks of the project, we had extensive discussions with their internal design team. We had discussions around their present offerings, their customers, the product line up, etc. We had discussions around the need of the business and the future of Havells Studio as a brand.
